I recently bought a R.S all band scanner antenna mag mount and it's already falling apart. I am looking for a high quality auto mount (lip/mag doesn't matter) for my Pro-95. Can anyone help with suggestions ?
Thanks,
Matt

I have had a MON-53 for a while now and have nothing bad to say about it. Its a little tall but works very well throughout the bands (in my opinion).

Using a portable on a mag mount has never had a good report. Any Mag/Any Portable. It seems something is lost in the fact that the antenna is not grounded. Think about it. If the antenna is grounded to an auto where the antenna is located, then they do work better.

I bought mine in November and it's still as good as the day I put it together. What have you been doing to yours?

Mag mount antennas are grounded electrically. Physical ground doesn't matter where receiving (or transmitting) is concerned.

great info, keep it coming

My RS antenna literally is falling apart on the car, I haven't treated it badly or roughly, the coil snapped and it droops over, had to tape with electrical tape to keep it aloft and the joint at the base is loose and cannot be screwed tight, must be a lemon. Anyway, I am learning a lot about antennas from research and postings and appreciate all the info you guys are sending. Keep it coming, I have been a scanner listener for almost 20 years, but never a serious gadget head about this stuff until recently. I am trying to really understand how it all works and how I can listen better.
Thanks,
Matt

If you want to move up to a professional quality, then I do sell some very nice scanner antennas and mounts. You can see the scanner antennas by going to http://shop.waltel.com/catalog/index.php/cPath/10_48 . I also have various mounts including magnetic and trunk lip at http://shop.waltel.com/catalog/index.php/cPath/1 . We can install connectors on any of the mounts so you can have a complete package that is ready to go.

I personally use an ABSCANC antenna on my vehicle and am very happy with the performance. It even picks up well on lowband even though it wasn't designed for it.

Please let me know if you have any questions about anything.

Thanks,
Jeff

The antenna that JohnWayne sells works great. I have used it with a trunk lip mount.

I, too, am pleased with the Antennex ABSCAMC from Waltel. I've used it on both my BCT8 and Sportcat with nice results. I seem to have the best results in the 460 bands, but do well with 155 and heard my local 800 from over 50 miles out on Sunday (was up pretty high but heard it clearly nonetheless).
Jeff from Waltel is a good guy to work with and runs a professional operation.
Now if I can only make my mind up as to what to put up on the roof that will meet reception needs, budget restraints and WAF (wife acceptability factor).

I assume you are referring to the antenna that has the 2 traps on it...I bought one around 5 years ago and it has worked fine since then and is still working fine. I still use it as a temp antenna when using a car that isnt mine. Its also a great 2m/70cm amateur antenna
