Are the newer car antenna adaptors for scanner reception any good or are they as bad as they were 15 years ago when I last tried one? With that one, I lost some am/fm reception and it wasn't that great for the scanner either. I don't want to advertise that I have a scanner in my car with an antenna on top.

Glass mount vs ducky on handheld?

I had a question about the Radio Shack glass mount. Would it work better than either the stock Uniden antenna or the 800mhz RS "ducky" on a handheld inside a vehicle? Or would I get about the same reception regardless?

I got one from scannermasters, it goes along the windshild under the trim strip up either side , basicly a wire with b/c connector, absolutly invisable and works great in town, cant say for highway since I diont know what i am missing, hooked to a bc350c $9.95

I definitley find it to be better than the stock and the 800MHz duckie on a handheld inside the car. Being the glass mount is actually outside the vehicle and higher than the car itself I think it makes for much better reception. But thats just my observation over the years.

I just pulled up the RS install (pdf) and it says it won't work well with windshields that contain "metallic sun screening". I'd like to install this on the back window of my F150, which came with slightly darkened factory window tinting. Are they talking about factory window tinting or something else (sorry, not up on all the different window treatments)?

BTW, is your antenna mounted on a clear or tinted window?

Here's the install manual:

I have a 2000 Explorer, probably with the same factory tint that you have, I have it mounted on the passenger side back window. Works excellent. I think metallic sun screening is more like that "mirror tint" aftermarket stuff. I dont think our factory tint should make much difference. I was a little apprehensive about how long the "sticky stuff" would last on the exterior of my car...its been about 5 years now, no problems!

I do see a lot of p/u trucks around here with the antenna mounted on the rear window...looks great!

Hey that's great; thanks for the info about the windows. Mine is a '98, so it sounds like it should work fine. I'll have time this weekend to pick one up & get it installed.
