Shawnee Sheriff is installing GPS Vehicle Locating equipment on its marked patrol cars. They have had mobile data terminals for some time and the data channel to support AVL but had not added it up to this point.
Apparently there are some software issues (aren't there always) trying to integrate the system into dispatch (CECC). As a side note- KHP experimented with this about 9 years ago but dropped the project (50 car pilot in Troop B- looked like hockey pucks on the trunks) due to lack of data channels and software issues in dispatch. For those of you who remember- they tried to stack the data onto the voice channels (sounded like a flock of mallards mating all day long).
