New to the Avondale area and was wondering if anyone knew what TG or Frequency Avondale Fire Dept was using currently?

Thank You

Phoenix dispatches all the valley fire departments except Mesa. They use the old VHF freq of 154.190 but it is also patched into the RWC trunked system. As far as I know Avondale does not have a separate fire channel or talk group, although their admin might use a different Avondale freq for semi-private messages.

As a general rule of thumb, most EMS (medical) calls are handled on the new RWC digital trunked system and most fire calls are handled on the older VHS channels. Here are most of the VHS frequencies they still use:

A1 154.190 Valley wide dispatch
A2 154.250 East Phoenix
A3 154.070 West Phoenix
A4 154.280 Statewide Mutual Aid (not used much any more in the Phoenix area)
A5 153.830 NE valley
A6 154.310 NW valley
A7 157.145 Tempe
A8 153.770 South Phoenix
A9 155.670 West Phoenix
A10 151.370 Far North

This page Regional Wireless Cooperative (RWC) Trunking System, Phoenix, Arizona - Scanner Frequencies lists the Talk Groups used primarily for EMS calls. (Scroll down to Phoenix Fire TalkGroups)

You might also want to check out this site: https://htms.phoenix.gov/publicweb/Default.aspx Channels listed as Ax are the analog VHS channels shown above. Ones listed as Kx are the talk groups on K deck.

Generally speaking, A-1 and K-1 for dispatch, A-9 for fire/hazmat calls, and K-9 for EMS calls. Multi-victim accidents and special duty/mountain rescues will be on K-10, K-11 or K-12. Special events may be on any L-deck TG, or a G-deck interop TG.

Additionally, every FD on the RWC also has it's own set of K-2 through K-5 TG's. Avondale is assigned 1687 for K-2, and 1688 for K-3. (All K-4's and K-5's are encrypted.) Not every FD uses them, so they may not be active yet.

I've never paid much attention to what usage is on what K TG, but I do have 1200 hits on K6, 1000 on K8, 700 on K7 & K9, 100 on K10 & K11, and 60 on K12, so 6-7-8-9 are getting a lot of use, 10-11-12 not so much.

I also show A12 as the haz mat freq, but I show 0 hits on both A9 and A 12, which doesn't mean much if there hasn't been much activity close by. I normally use the rubber duckie antenna, I only hook up the roof antenna on occasion when I know something is going on and the duck won't get it.

K-6 is Northwest EMS
K-7 is Northeast EMS
K-8 is Southeast EMS
K-9 is Southwest EMS

A-decks are for fire & hazmat useage. A-4 is mainly used for helicopter landing zones, rather than mutual-aid in the Valley. Above A-10 you now have:
A-11 154.025 Scottsdale
A-12 154.130 South
A-13 154.430 Southeast
A-14 155.775 HazMat

A-15 155.715 Special Events
A few channels still have the 173.8 CTCSS (1, 2, 10, 11) but most have switched to a DCS code now. Each channel has a different one.

From what I've heard, the far southwest departments don't use the K-deck TG's. This includes Buckeye, Buckeye Valley, Tonopah and Harquahala Valley. They use A-9 (BFD & BVFD) or A-12 (TFD & HVFD) for all calls, EMS and fire/hazmat.

OK, I'm confused. I have the following differences:

A-12 155.775 Chandler - DCS 662
A-14 154.130 Southeast - DCS 632
A-15 155.715 Events/Training - DCS 664

I have nothing just for HazMat Calls. It seems they have been assigning then to the area channels the call is located in.

The channels were recently rearranged for better continuity. I've never actually heard the Hazmat channel used. I believe it was set aside for use by the Hazmat sector at an incident, but in actual practice everything stays on the primary assigned Tac.

155.775 has always been Hazmat. 154.430 used to be a repeater, with 154.130 as the input when Chandler first joined the Phoenix system. They did away with the repeater and made two simplex channels out of it. This all occured in the past 2 years or so.

Thanks! I'll change the alpha tags in the BC15 after I add some of the K-2, K-3 TGs to the 996XT.

A 2-and-1 medical/962 on EB I-10 at MM 84 has been assigned to A-13. Harquahala Valley, Tonopah and Buckeye Valley are responding. So "Southeast" may not be the proper designation for A-13. I thought I had heard HVFD/TFD/BVFD assigned to A-12 in the past.

I may have been mistaken, or perhaps they can be assigned to either A-12 or A-13. Some closer listening when they get calls is in order.
