13324 KHz, 0045Z 3/28/11:

Boeing's B-787 Dreamliner prototype is up and flying around, was just on ACARS with ground station Molokai. IDing today as BO0372. Fooled me at first with the flight ID, the BO prefix is normally used by Bouraq Indonesia Airlines. Then I saw the tail number, N787BA.

First log for me on the B-787.

Heard in NW Ohio.

got any tips intel? does your volume need to be high to get it to work? or does the transmission have to be real clear any ideas?

I can tell you what works for me, maybe that will help. I use an Icom R8500 receiver with the smaller G5RV antenna. (new 500-600 foot long wire in the making, now on drawing board...) The soundcard's LINE IN is fed via the Icom's REC OUT jack, which has a constant audio level (350 mV rms, 4.7 kΩ), so the volume doesn't affect the signal out of that jack.

The signals I'm decoding are all over the place in terms of quality. Large differences in signal strength and noise. The PC-HFDL program decodes it all, even stuff I thought it would never "hear" well enough. Great program.

Check that you're using the LINE IN jack on your sound card, and then go in to the sound card controls and make sure that the LINE IN is activated, has an acceptable audio level (not turned way down), and it is not muted. If that doesn't work, maybe try another patch cord, I'm using a regular mono 1/8 male from the radio to the RCA jack on the sound card. If you can hear it, the program should be able to decode it.

Now, PC-ALE, thats a different story. That program can be over driven REAL fast, I have to set the programs audio-in level very very low for it work 100%.

Hope this helps.

BTW, the B-787 Dreamliner gave a position report after I submitted that log above. He was over extreme southwest Montana at the time.
