• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Baby Monitor on 462.725 Mhz (Ch. 22)

Over here in Las Vegas, something interesting has popped up on 462.725 Mhz with a DCS tone of 734. Its a constant signal sometimes lasting several hours a transmission or even all day. Sounds like its being used by a "baby monitor" type device. I can hear what sounds like an old person or old couple. Sometimes I can hear a TV going, music, dogs barking, and old man talking about selling off some of his assets. Yesterday I was getting full bars down my street and could hear what sounded like an elderly woman calling out for her husband or caretaker who sounded equally as elderly. She sounded in distress and the male subject was trying to calm her down. There was a discussion about a pain pill and when he offered her a cookie it turned into an argument about who bought the Oreos.

Its not necessarily causing me any issues but depending on my proximity to where ever the signal is coming from, its even heterodyning with the local repeaters on this frequency. This would join the growing list of GMRS freqs being used for silly things like DMR and data modes in my area, but that's another topic for another day.

Anyway, are there any known devices being sold as baby monitors or similar that are using GMRS/FRS frequencies to transmit?

Just for giggles I went ahead and set my radio to transmit with the 734 DPL and I think I gave an old lady a heart attack. Definitely sounds like it's vox activated just the way it cuts in and out based on the sound levels on the other end. Kinda interesting though and finds like these are why I like to scan the 49mhz band to catch any wireless phones or baby monitor transmissions.

Well this solves a little mystery we had here in the Phoenix area for a while, there was just such a device on 462.550, but also with the 734 DPL code. The traffic heard on it was usually a dog barking but occasional voices could be heard.

Due to the interference it was causing to our repeater one of us set up an FRS radio on the same freq and tone and politely asked them to change the channel. They apparently shut it off and we didn't hear them again for a couple months where it popped up again on an FRS channel.

I have one in my neighborhood that broadcasts some local LE TG's. I haven't figured it out but my guess is it's someone that comes home for lunch/dinner/whatever and listens to the radios in his vehicle that way.

Nope. It's close enough to hear on a portable downstairs though. I can't get out much these days so I haven't pinpointed it. My guess is a wrecker driver as LE would probably have a portable. It was weird first time I heard since I was listening to the exact same stuff and thought I was being bugged.

There was a guy in Janesville WI who for years had the local fire channel retransmitted on a GMRS channel. While I had an idea where it was I never figured out if he was a buff or on the job. I guess this is more common than I thought.

There's one in my area too, an FRS parrot on channel 2. It outputs PL 67.0 but will parrot any transmission on frequency regardless of PL/DPL and has a scanner piped into it as well with a mix of ham and public safety being picked up, also heard the local LTR standard system on it. Probably some prepper type with a wannabe emcomm repeater.
