I have a Bearcat BC895xlt that the backlight is not working . Can I repair this or does it have to be sent to the factory. Thanks

Just checking the obvious, did you press the DIM button?
At first I snickered when I read this reply, but, if the buttons are laid out like the 898 you can inadvertently switch brightness (hi, lo, off). Good question.

I'm in the same boat as Gear67 w/ the same radio. Orange light is out on the panel, and the DIM button only dims the Freq or Chan indicator next to the turning knob. Its got to be a lcd light on the panel. Please help us.

Geez, is that "feature" as useless as it sounds?
No, it's because the display light is not working.

The display backlight consists of four incandescent lamps with orange
sleeves on the bulbs. Uniden sells the lamps with sleeves for $1.35 each,
part # BPZY0036001. To order parts call 1-800-554-3988.

In some cases the lights may be ok but the driver transistor is bad. A few tests with an Ohmmeter will tell which part(s) are bad. A fair amount of disassembly is required to get to the lights and it would be best if someone experienced with electronic devices did the repair.

LOL I never even noticed that it dims those lights. What a waste...
