So, if I go to MENU then SETTINGS, then SET BACKLIGHT, then SET MODE, then set it to SQUELCH, the display backlight is supposed to be on constantly while the voice transmission is in progress, yeah? Except, that doesn't happen! The backlight comes on for five seconds at the beginning of the transmission, then it goes off. I've tried setting it to stay on squelch both through the unit's menu and via software upload settings, but no dice... it will not stay on constantly. My BC125AT does it correctly, as does my 436, but the 325P2, no. Ideas?

That thread answers my question. Although it appears in the menu, that setting is not possible, and Uniden refuses to answer why. Too bad.
Other than that, I just love this little radio!
Yeah, it's a great scanner! I love mine too!

I just leave the backlight on full time.

Assuming we are talking about the alert light function....

Because there are all too many patent attorneys who would love to accept an infringement case and make some big bucks.

UPMan mentioned that before, too, so it has been answered.

the back light will not stay on constantly like you are asking about, it apparently only stays 30 seconds max to conserve battery power since the 325p2 only has two battery's. If you want the back light to stay on constantly you will need the 996p2, its the same radio only in a different package.

It has nothing to do with conserving battery power. Read post #5.

Or just learn to live with it. As I wrote before, otherwise, I'm 100% satisfied with it. It's my #1 "go to" radio for portable use.

Because the unit can be powered via external power when battery power is not an issue.

Also I've never found that the battery savings is all that great.

Compared to the audio amp, the power requirement is low.
