Pro-651: Backlight question.

Im trying to get my Pro 651 to turn on the backlight when there is a transmission and turn off when the conversation is over. I believe my Pro 652 had that option. I've read the manual and have played around with the settings but I cant get it to work, not sure it's even capable of doing it. I'm afraid if I leave the backlight on continuously while I am listening to the scanner it will burn the backlight out.

I dont think there is a global setting for that but you can program each talkgroup id or conventional channel for the backlight to come on. Program, edit, current, then scroll down to backlight. Options are on, off, flash. Also, Backlight: Sets how the backlight will function while the object is active. Default is Off.
Press ◄ or ► to select Off, On, or Flash.
Notes: Does not function when Light Mode (in the GLOB menu) is set to Stlth. Light Mode has to be set to Norml, Key, or Ignre for the backlight to come on only during a transmission

Great information!!

That worked great! I am having to do individual id's which is no big deal. I'm just waiting for for a channel to become active and I go in and turn on the backlight. Been trying for 3 years to figure this out. Thanks for your help!

You're welcome. If you have programming software you should be able to do it there too.
