I had a Uniden Bearcat BCT8 scanner mounted in my truck and I programmed the local Tampa, FL police/fire frequencies in it. All of them are either in the 150.0000's or 400.0000's range and I can not hear anything from any of the channels. I know the radio and antenna works from all the frequencies I have programmed in back home in NJ. I did nothing different when programming these Tampa ones and I'm not sure if they are outdated from the website?

Can You Receive EDACS?

Gonzo,
According to the database here, Tampa Fire and Police use the Hillsborough County system which is an EDACS trunked system. I'm sorry but I don't know if your scanner can track an EDACS system, but at least this should point you in the right direction to start.
Good luck!

Yes I can pick up EDACS. I have a Uniden Bearcat BCT which can handle trunking. I am pretty new when it comes to trunking and have been doing some reading today about it. I also looked up the section under Tampa for MacDill AFB where I work to try and listen to their stuff too. Now I just need to figure out how to program them

With EDACS systems you need to enter the frequencies in the exact order as shown in the DB, also known as LCN.

That systems also uses ProVoice which is a digital format that current scanners cannot decode.

Read more about EDACS systems here.

The McDill AFB system is also digital. (Project 25 Phase I APCO-25 Common Air Interface Exclusive) The BCT8 will not decode any digital.

You may be able to monitor McDill with a "digital" scanner but many AFBs are going to full time encryption which no scanner can decode.

Dang :/ So I get the lucky draw that both the agencies I want to listen to are too high tech for my little Bear cat lol
