bad reception

i have been using a radio shack multi band magnetic scanner for several years with great results..but in the last 3 months its like i am only getting reception thru the coax and not the whip..and i have tried several scanners and several different places on my car..and i have also
checked the continuity of the antennas and have found no breaks or shorts..any suggestions short of a 12 guage is needed.thx.

Sounds reasonable given that he doesn't mention that he's replaced the coax. I'd try another piece of coax.

Since you are "only getting reception thru the coax and not the whip" I would check and clean the area where the wip connects to the mount. If it is a sealed unit it may be time for a new antenna. I have had mobile antenna setups go bad due to corrosion and sometimes replacement is the best course..
