Bad signal to the city, not far away.

Hey everyone, I just recently got the Pro-197 and mainly monitor the county. I live in Dundalk but for some reason have such a hard time monitoring the City. As you may know Dundalk really isn't far from the city line so I'm curious why I have so much trouble. I have an 800 mhz antenna from radioshack which is what someone told me to get to have a better signal with less cut outs and gargling sounds. It improved the County quality but the city is the same. Are the city towers located deep into the city or? I'm confused on my bad signal.

As I was typing this even the county started cutting out a good bit, what is the deal here? I know it's not always going to be a great but..?

EDIT, just checked my signal to the county and it was dropping from 98% to 60%
EDIT AGAIN, Switched to the telescopic antenna that came with the antenna and now the signal is fine. How come everyone else has such good results with the 800mhz radioshack antenna but I don't?
