NEW MADRID 407 AM CST SAT DEC 23 2006...ACCUMULATING SNOWS POSSIBLE OVER THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY...
A POTENTIALLY SIGNIFICANT STORM SYSTEM WILL BEGIN TO TAKE SHAPE LATER THIS HOLIDAY WEEKEND. IT WILL INTRODUCE A CHANCE OF RAIN BY LATE CHRISTMAS EVE... WITH RAIN CHANCES STEADILY INCREASING AS THE SYSTEM EVOLVES AND SPREADS PRECIPITATION ACROSS THE ENTIRE QUAD STATE BY THE START OF CHRISTMAS DAY.
WHILE THERE IS STILL A GREAT DEAL OF MODEL UNCERTAINTY...AT THIS TIME IT LOOKS LIKE A REINFORCING SHOT OF UPPER AIR ENERGY...AND MORE IMPORTANTLY... COLDER AIR...WILL WORK IN FROM THE NORTH AND WEST LATER IN THE DAY ON CHRISTMAS DAY. AS A RESULT...RAIN COULD BEGIN TO CHANGE TO SNOW MONDAY AFTERNOON...WITH SOME ACCUMULATIONS EVEN POSSIBLE IN WESTERN PORTIONS OF THE REGION BY THE END OF THE DAY. THE COLD AIR IS FORECAST TO THEN SPREAD OVER THE ENTIRE REGION CHRISTMAS NIGHT...CHANGING PRECIPITATION TO ALL SNOW AND LASTING WELL INTO THE NIGHT. MODEL INDICATIONS NOW ARE PROJECTING THE POTENTIAL FOR SOME ACCUMULATIONS... POSSIBLY EVEN TWO OR THREE INCHES.
THE SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO LIFT OUT OF THE AREA LATE MONDAY NIGHT AND EXCEPT FOR POSSIBLY SOME LINGERING LIGHT SNOW OR FLURRIES EARLY TUESDAY MORNING... ACCUMULATING WINTRY WEATHER WILL BE OVER BY TUESDAY.
CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY TRAVELERS ARE ADVISED TO STAY ABREAST OF THE LATEST FORECAST AND UPDATES TO THIS POTENTIALLY SIGNIFICANT WEATHER SYSTEM...AND PLAN THEIR HOLIDAY TRAVEL ACCORDINGLY. THERE IS STILL A GREAT DEAL OF UNCERTAINTY TO THIS FORECAST... SO TAKE PRECAUTIONS NOW IN CASE IT TURNS OUT TO BE MORE SIGNIFICANT THAN EXPECTED.

NEW MADRID 447 AM CST SUN DEC 24 2006...MINOR SNOW ACCUMULATIONS POSSIBLE LATE CHRISTMAS DAY AND NIGHT...
A DEVELOPING WINTER STORM OVER THE SOUTHERN UNITED STATES WILL SPREAD RAIN INTO THE QUAD STATE REGION TONIGHT. THE RAIN IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE INTO CHRISTMAS MORNING. BY AFTERNOON...COLD AIR WILL BEGIN TO FILTER IN FROM THE WEST...CAUSING THE RAIN TO CHANGE OVER TO SNOW ACROSS SOUTHEAST MISSOURI AND WESTERN PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN ILLINOIS. THE CHANGEOVER TO SNOW WILL PROCEED ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF THE REGION CHRISTMAS NIGHT BEFORE THE SNOW COMES TO AN END BY EARLY TUESDAY MORNING.
WHILE THERE IS STILL CONSIDERABLE UNCERTAINTY WITH REGARD TO THE EVOLUTION OF THIS WINTER WEATHER EVENT...IT IS LOOKING MORE LIKELY THAT LACK OF COLD AIR WILL LIMIT POTENTIAL SNOW ACCUMULATION. IN ADDITION...WARM GROUND TEMPERATURES WILL LIKELY INHIBIT THE ACCUMULATION OF SNOW AT ONSET...ESPECIALLY ON ROAD SURFACES. ALL IN ALL...SNOW ACCUMULATIONS WITH THIS EVENT ARE FORECAST TO BE AROUND AN INCH. ISOLATED LOCATIONS COULD POSSIBLY ACCUMULATE UP TO 2 INCHES... BUT THAT WOULD BE MAINLY ON ELEVATED AND GRASSY SURFACES.
WHILE THE WARM GROUND TEMPERATURES WILL LIKELY RESULT IN ONLY WET ROADS... PATCHY SLICK SPOTS MAY STILL DEVELOP... ESPECIALLY ON BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES CHRISTMAS NIGHT...WHEN TEMPERATURES ARE FORECAST TO DROP TO OR JUST BELOW FREEZING. CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY TRAVELERS ARE ADVISED TO STAY ABREAST OF THE LATEST FORECAST AND UPDATES TO THIS EVOLVING WEATHER SITUATION.

NEW MADRID 427 AM CST MON DEC 25 2006...MINOR ACCUMULATIONS OF SNOW POSSIBLE CHRISTMAS NIGHT...
A DEVELOPING STORM SYSTEM OVER THE GULF COAST WILL DEEPEN AND TRACK NORTHEAST TODAY...REACHING EASTERN KENTUCKY BY THIS EVENING. THIS WILL RESULT IN OCCASIONAL RAIN ACROSS THE REGION THROUGHOUT THE DAY. ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS ARE EVEN POSSIBLE OVER WEST KENTUCKY... ESPECIALLY AROUND MIDDAY.
BY THE END OF THE DAY...THE RAIN MAY BEGIN TO MIX WITH SNOW ACROSS THE OZARK FOOTHILLS OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI...AS TEMPERATURES FALL SLOWLY. THE TRANSITION FROM RAIN...TO A RAIN AND SNOW MIX...AND THEN ALL SNOW WILL CONTINUE EASTWARD ACROSS THE REST OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI...AS WELL AS SOUTHERN ILLINOIS...SOUTHWEST INDIANA AND WESTERN KENTUCKY CHRISTMAS NIGHT.
MINOR ACCUMULATIONS OF SNOW WILL BE POSSIBLE CHRISTMAS NIGHT BEFORE THE LIGHT SNOW ENDS BY EARLY TUESDAY MORNING. ACCUMULATIONS SHOULD BE AT OR BELOW 1 INCH FOR THE MOST PART...AND MAINLY ON GRASSY AND ELEVATED SURFACES. RAIN PRECEDING THE LIGHT SNOW FALL...COUPLED WITH RELATIVELY MILD GROUND TEMPERATURES...SHOULD PREVENT ACCUMULATIONS FROM BEING MUCH HIGHER.
TRAVELERS SHOULD MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS...AND PREPARE FOR PATCHY SLICK SPOTS CHRISTMAS NIGHT...AS TEMPERATURES FALL TO AROUND 30 BY DAYBREAK TUESDAY.

Hard to read all of this, but I'm not sure why people are getting excited about snowfall potential... I've been downplaying this storm for days, and I don't think anyone in the midwest will be getting any notable accumulations.
