Baltimore city compared to Baltimore county radio usage

There was a call near my house last night and the foxtrot copter got real low at times. The thing is ASWESOME and it has a loud speaker on the side, (the light can be made wide and thin),and he dont hover unless he is fueling up at M.S.A.(why???). When he was finished the call he told the police officers he was 10-8(in service) thru the loud speaker and i didnt hear him on the channel anymore after that (found that very strange).
But this was the first time i payed attention to everything that was going on. City police dont use there radios a third as much as the baltimore county uses theirs. I noticed this when i got my 296 last christmas. The first time i heard the city, i was in disbeliefe on how different they are to everyone else.
I wish the city would use there radios differently but if they been doing it the same way this many years and it works, then why change stuff around!!!

The reason why fox doesn't hover is 'cause they don't want to be shot at. Kinda hard to hit a moving target. I once read this in an article about LAPD's aviation division. They orbit at 500 feet MSL.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say the City officers don't use their radios much. They use them plenty. In fact, they probably use them more then the County officers. Higher call volume. Yeah they're a little different so it takes some getting used to. Once I got used to it, listening is a breeze and alot more active then the County. One thing I've noticed is the County will work a crime scene and set up a perimiter, while the City officers just seem too busy to bother with it.

i have to agree with my man MLEVIN... the city police use their radios like they are going out of style... non-the-less... love listening to them...

After going 10-8 foxtrot will return to the citywide channel generally, unless he is going to another call in another district. This is why you did not hear him anymore on that district's channel.

Thats a firmative on your guys info. The fact is that the city gets 3 times more calls than the county (i know this). The part i meant when they use there radios more scarcely for chats. It just seems as if the county likes to chat a little more about what is happening, The city officers will ask for a land line or, when the county wont ever!! Ya know its so different in all aspects. Dispatcher doesnt give the time after all calls givn out (being backed up) The kga dont say 10-4 after a tag is given like the county. 10-32's all day in the city. Thats just a couple of things for the non digital scanner owners. But it is awesome to listen to the city police at 3 am and have so much stuff goin on at that time. 3 am in the county, dispatchers are sound asleep....
