They were supposed to switch that color scheme but haven't yet. Foxtrot and the Command vehicle are the only things marked that way so far.

Thanks. Didn't there used to be an "un-official" website? That's where I remeber first seeing the police car drawing.

I saw an Anne Arundel County PD marked car (in the new version paint scheme) that was not the usual Ford or Chev product. It went by so fast the other way I couldn't tell what it was. Does anybody know :?: .

I thought they fixed that :? I personally think the Crown Vic is the only car that looks like a cop cruiser. All this other stuff is cool looking, but doesn't look lke a cop car. IMO

My Personal Opinion Crown Vic's need to be taken off The Road
because of The Gas Tank Situation

There's a fix to the gas tank rupture that's available through Ford Fleet Services. It involves the addition of a 2nd steel plate with a flexible padding on it, and it's actually now standard on all CV's, not just CVPI's.

This repair is free for all law enforcement vehicles, but is only free on FD vehicles on a case-by-case basis. :? It's also available, at a cost, for civilian CV owners.

If all the Crown Vic's were taken off the road there wouldn't be too many police on the road. And for that matter a lot of Fire Dept staff cars would be off the road. Considering how many Crown Vic's that are out there, not many have really had the gas tank problems. Sorry, I know this is sorta off the topic of Radios........

I Agree,The Ford Crown Victorias do make a Nice Looking Police Vehicle!!!
Also The Worcester County Sheriff's Office in Maryland done away With
Purchasing The Crown Victorias and Started Purchasing Those Chevorlet
Impalas, The Impala does Look Good as a Patrol Car...The Impala
Police Vehicle has That 3.8 Liter V6 with The Supercharger, Like What was
in The Buick Regal Grand National's Which were The Fastest Car Back in The Mid-2-Late 80's...If Ford Fixed The Gas Tank Problem, Well Thats
Good...Because Those CV's are Quick...They Got The Same Motor That
The Mustang GT V8 has...

Baltimore...

Firstly, on the Baltimore thing:

They need to get cars, before they can paint them!!!! The car shortage is really hurting the PD here.

Secondly, I agree regarding the Impalas. I think thr Crown Vic has outlived its day, and the Impala is an excellent replacement. I don't think the Intrepid (or any Dodge vehicle for that matter) should be used a s a police vehicle. I think they are the ugliest looking cars on the road (my opinion...)

I'll chime in here...most (if not all) of the CVPI that suffered from the gas explosions were due to high speed rear end impact, not just the run of the mill rear end collisions. We are talking about some serious high speeds.

2nd, the Impala supercharged engines are not tuned for the impala, but work well in the Buick counterpart. We looked at the Superchaged engine for our new DB car, and saw no real difference in performace/cost between that and the 3800 that comes with the LS package.

Only backdraw is that you lose rear badguy and trunk space. The car works good if you have a small vehicle budget.

I am personally looking at an Impala 9C3 for the wife, that has the 3800 engine. The thing gets up and goes.

Can't knock Dogde too much. They built some rock solid police cars. I remember driving the good old Gran Fury's. Talk about power. There was no room in the engine compartment for anything else. You hit the gas, and it took off. Very nice car for its time.

Some of the local PD's bought some Intrepid's as well, and they love them as well. It just depends on how you operate.

The older Ford CV's got the recall to add the foam padding. The 2005's at least, have a fire reduction system that uses chemicals to reduce or extinguish a fire in the rear of the vehicle. In the event that the system fails to deploy, there is a switch for manual activation.

About the Chevrolet Impalas: JUNK... this is coming from a police officer who has been involved in chases... Never had the oppurtunity to drive a impala (thank god) but passed plenty of them during a chase. I do agree though someone needs to come out with a new rear wheel drive v-8 police car... I would love to see chevrolet do it, but wouldn't count on it. I would expect to see Dodge do it, based on the Magnum chassis, without the liftgate (rumor has it will be called the enforcer)... Just as a sidenote, either in 05 or 06 the magnum will be offered as a police package with the hemi or v-6...

And Jeff, you are partly correct. Worcester County did go to the Impala, but due to the amount of problems they have had with them, most have been moved to the civil division...only a few impala's are left in road patrol for the county. the 2 last purchases of vehicles has been crown vics.
