Even though this question isnt radio related, but What kind of shifts does a Balto. City Police Officer work? Is it like 10 hr days and 4 days a week or
5 eight hr days per week? Thanks in Advance

I'm not sure the number of days, but it's 8 hour shifts. 8am-4pm, 4pm-12pm, 12pm-8am.

Central works 2300-0700/ 0700-1500 and 1500-2300. They work six days on with two off. When days off are Sat and Sun they either get Fri Sat Sun or Sat Sun Mon. And the long weekends are two back to back.

The Southwest Division also starts their adam shift at 2300 to 700 Starting a few months back....Im guessing thats what the central district did also....Not sure about any other cinks....

Thanks for the replies, My reason why I was asking is b/c Im looking into becoming a Balto. City Police Officer, even though Ive received final offer of employments elsewhere but If I could have the chance I would like to work in a Big City like Baltimore...

That schedule will actually wear you out quick. They changes shifts every 28 days. Days to evenings and vice versa. Midnites are permanent.

Good things are that even new guys get a decent shot at good vacations and good personal days since seniority is by squad and it's a young department. Good place to learn a lot quick.

Bad things are it's political as can be. No stability from the top, s*** rolls down hill and as I said, that schedule wears you out quick.

My fiancee worked there and often times just came home from work and crashed. I work for another PD with a vastly different schedule. Wait for her to come home and lo and behold, she was out like a light.

My Father always told me The Shift Work and The Political stuff is apart of the Job... and I was also told to look at it in a positive way, Good Benefits,Decient Retirement and Good Chances of making Advancements.
If I do get in with Balto. PD, I will like to become a Detective!!!

I'm at the 8 year mark and have made it through one of the potential burnout danger points. 5-7 years on is when many leave. Couple more years before I get to another statistical danger point. Made it through the biggie though it was tough. Anyways, good luck wherever you go.

What do cops do after they get out? Move to another police department? Private security?

Usually anything not police or security. Several I came on with have left as well as some that came about the same time. Off the top of my head, I can think of several that work with computers, one for CSX as an engineer, one is a social worker, one truck driver and one is a plumber.
