Am trying to find out the marine frequencies used by the Baltimore PORT AUTHORTY when communicating with FREIGHTERS entering and leaving the PORT. Also the freq. used by Pilots on board these vessels.

Does the Port Authority have a transmitter in Baltimore as well as on the BAY BRIDGE ? Freq ?

See the natiowide lists of Marine VHF freqs,.. and most Port Athorities will make initial contact on chan 16, then advise over air to go to another chan.

Balt port freqs

Most big ship activity is on VHF ch 11 156.550. Pilots use this to and from pilot office and pilot launches. Many of the shipping agencies use 11 as well, although I think Sparrows Pt Agency uses 9 (don't ask me why, it may be a grandfathered issue). Ships use ch 13 156.65 for setting up passing arrangements when in close proximity to each other.

CG Activities Baltimore (briefly "Sector" Baltimore...for about 2 months) issues broadcasts on 16, directing you to listen to 22 whenever there is a planned large ship movement that requires boater's to keep their distance, like LNG Ships or Cruise Ships etc.

Don't forget the USCG LANT channels for activity in the 162-174 govt' spectrum

I've had them in various forms at one time or another, and never heard a thing. They're most likely encrypted now, anyway. There's also been a few reports of some fed agencies - not necessarily USCG - using P25, as well.

Still it might be interesting to have a current list of the LANT freqs - the list I have is way too old to be reliable. Would make an interesting addition to the USCG Wiki, come to think of it. 73s Mike
