Baltimore Ship Traffic

Does any outfit monitor the ship traffic entering or leaving the Port of Baltimore, MD. I recall that years ago the Port Authority would make contact with vessels entering/leaving. I think they had a transmitter near the Inner Harbor and a repeater on the Bay Bridge.

Is this still in effect ?

157.100Mhz is the Baltimore Marine VHF Vessel/Weather Alert /Vessel Check freq.

157.100 MHz is the VHF Marine Channel 22A. Channel 22A is the Coast Guard to civilian liaison channel. On this channel you will here CG broadcast about navigational or weather warnings. Also on 22A you can here boat in need of help in comms with the CG and this primary freq form this in the USA. Any channel with an A or Alpha after it is a USA channel assignment.

Channel 21A 157.050 MHz Station Annapolis
Channel 23A 157.150 MHz Sector Baltimore
Channel 83A 157.175 MHz Stations under Sector Baltimore

Channels used by commercial companies.
Channel 11 156.550 used to contact ships coming into Port of Baltimore
Channel 12 156.600 used to dispatch Moran Tugs and secondary for CG
Channel 13 156.650 Tugs and ships passing comms
Channel 77 156.875 used by tugs docking ships

Channels used by pleasure boats.
Channel 09 156.450
Channel 68 156.425
Channel 69 156.475

Channel 72 156.625
Channel 78 156.925

May be other channels used by all, but these the major ones. The CG and other land stations will be heard at a great distance, but will have to close to the water or have a good VHF antenna to hear the vessel side. Hope this helps in your marine monitoring in the Baltimore area.

Sometimes, the pilots [Boston] also have a repeater on 161.600 which repeats the Ch.20 traffic.

Sometimes, the pilots [Boston] also have a repeater on 161.600 which repeats the Ch.20 traffic.

157.000/161.600 are both Marine Ch-20 (duplex), Port Operations. It is common to have a repeater on that circuit but it is always duplex.

i live on kent island, south of the bay bridge, and most of the enroute large ship traffic i hear is on channel 13 (156.65 mhz). it is usually the pilots, tugs and navigation announcements as they pass under the bridge and to and from the docks in baltimore. 13 is also used for some of the draw bridges in the area - kent narrows and others on the western shore.
