I noticed that when I listen to Balto city transmissions on my 396 that parts of the conversations are in-audible. This especially is noticeable with police transmissions. I can hear dispatch fine but whenever a mobile unit transmits the audio is very low. What could be the problem? Any suggestions.......

I just found your post. I've noticed the same thing. I tend to monitor Southern district and low audio from mobiles has been common. Not seeing any replies here I wonder if anyone replied privately to you? Or have you found a way to improve reception?

You're probably receiving just fine. Alot of officers don't bother to turn their head toward the speaker mic whe nthey talk and that leads to low audio volumes. It's a very common problem among law enforcement.

I've noticed that the dispatchers are frequently booming, almost distorting when they transmit - some more than others. The portables, although slightly low in volume, tend to be more intelligible, clearer, and less distorted. Any thoughts?
