Hello,

Do receiving only, <30 MHz.

Have a simple end fed long wire ant., about 100 feet or so. Longest I can reasonably have up.

a. Do I want a 9:1 or a 49:1 Balun at the end to match it to a coax
run up to the room where the receiver is ?

Why ?

b. Inexpensive, fully cased, unit suggestions to purchase would be appreciated ?

Thanks,
B.

A 9:1 would be more appropriate as it matches 450 ohms to 50 ohms and a random length antenna wire that is uses across a wide frequency range can vary from less than 50 ohms to 2,500ohms or more. A 49:1 matches about 2,450 ohms to 50 ohms and is used to match a 1/2 wave end fed or multiples of a half wave at resonance which are around 2,500 ohms.
