Shouldve known better, to solder spade ends on balun xformer first! Yikes!
Why do they leave them crimped only? Seems to resist signal transfer.
Why do they use such thin spades? Seems like they do not make good contact on 300 ohm posts.
Beef em up with standard spades?
Any suggestions?

Most connectors are crimped and not soldered these days. Why do you think the crimped u blades have a bad connection?
You can test to touch them with something plastic like a disposable plastic fork or similar and listen to a recording setup from your receiver on an analog channel to check if it changes in background noise level.
