I have some sort of a trunking data channel on 166.620 MHz. I have NO idea where it's coming from. My first thought is Ontario. Does anyone who can listen to it, identify what type of a trunking system this is?

There is a cab company in Windsor using this frequency. Possibly it's a data channel
(not trunked). Don't know if it's practical to capture an audio sample. TAFL access is
still down, I can't check fine details.

I found a MOTOTRBO repeater on 142.335 MHz last night. Unknown location or what they were talking about.

TRBO on 142.3350 is Strathroy-Caradoc Police Service. It's an IP Site Connect system which also uses 143.4450 and 143.1900.

BTW the band opening is pretty good again tonight. I'm pulling in lots of stuff from Ohio 5/5. Currently listening to Lorain Co Sherrifs Dept on 154.8750.

Great skip again tonight too, from pretty much all directions. Pulling in all sorts of UHF MotoTRBO Connect Plus systems (likely from MI/OH) and lots of VHF traffic. I'm also currently pulling in 19 Fleetnet sites here in Strathroy... From Windsor/Chatham/Wallaceburg/Sarnia to the West, to Stratford/Listowel to the North to Guelph/Hamilton to the East. Also pulling in a little Metrolinx P25 traffic as well as P25 Federal Protective Services on 408.2000 from Detroit.

Interesting VHF propogation late last night. I heard unusual sounds in a small
band segment I was searching. Later, 162.78 taxi was heard, with Toronto
street addresses; turned out to be Beck Taxi (Toronto >> Ottawa !).

I heard some strange hollow buzzing sounds, unlike others I'm used to for
MDTs etc, on 155.925 and others that appeared to be coming through
(or on top of) repeaters on 166.680 (SQ) and 166.215.

I heard a warbling sound typical of CabMate dispatch system, on 172.380.
Not sure but it might have come from Brampton.

Just an observation. Isn't it nice that we can hear transmissions from towns that still operate standard systems? In Canada mean while, we have gone nuts with all this digital and encryption. To the point very small towns ie Strathroy ON, are running a system that they dont need. Its a breath of fresh air to hear skip, and to listen to regular good old two way radio.

Generally on real good tropo nights i can listen to both sites of the Ottawa Edacs system while still being able to turn over to toronto police and york and still be able to listen to basically both at the same time plus the NY state sheriffs.. it will start to get real good as the warm late summer days collide with the cool fall nights we'll get good temperature inversions which will bring some good conditions
