What does it mean when some sites in the TACN in the scanner have band plans, but others don't? I used ProScan.

Several years ago the FCC rebanded some of the 800 MHz spectrum to help limit interference from Cell Phone providers and public safety users. With non P25 systems like Motorola Type II trunking systems you needed a modified band plan to receive certain trunk systems after re-banding. Wiki here on RR had the information on how to modify certain scanner band plan to monitor trunked systems after re-banding.

The Indiana SAFE-T system was a Motorola Type II trunked system and required a modified band plan on Uniden BCD996T and BCD996XT scanners.

I updated the band plan on several uniden scanners to work. When Indiana SAFE-T migrated to P25 the data stream from the CC negates the need to modify the band plan with P25 systems. I suspect the programming software is accounting for this change when you identify the model scanner your programming.

The TACN system is P25 Phase 2. Some of the sites are 150 MHz. Are the sites with band plans 150MHz? On my 325P2 and 996P2, I set the band plan for P25 VHF and UHF sites to Custom and the band plan fills in itself. Some scanners require band plans for 150, 450, and 700. On a Motorola Type 2 system with 851, 852, or 853 MHz frequencies, you have to enter a rebanded band plan.

One of them is. There isn't Custom for the TACN.

Any band plan other than standard is a custom band plan.

With a P25 system, there isn't a standard bandplan so they're all custom.

Manufacturers might have a default bandplan that their systems ship with but that varies between manufacturers. Motorola's default bandplan is not the same as Harris' default bandplan.

Subscriber radios either download the bandplans from the control channel *if* the control channel broadcasts the bandplan or they must be preprogrammed with the bandplan.

It doesn't matter anymore. I'm going to return this scanner tomorrow, because I can't tolerate the digital simulcast audio problems.
