band scope?

OK on the xt hitting f+3 will put you in the band scope mode. I notice when i do this it pulls up the graph, then two frequencies on the bottom. Am I supposed to here any traffic when this happens, and can someone explain the purpose for bs mode. just curious not familiar with this term, even though ive heard it plenty.. thanks..
