I was wondering, are all say motorola radios capable of changing thier bandsplits on them? Also are /\/\ sabers capable of the bandsplits of 450 - 520 MHz?

I own one of those, and no, it's not.

Why do you need/want to transmitt fire tone-outs?

I could be wrong, but I don't think you can change the bandsplit of a radio unless you swap out the internals, but that'd be like getting a whole different radio anyway.

EDIT: The HT750, and most newer Motos can decode Quick Call II. You're going to have to find the proper tone values, though.

As for Fire Tone-Out, are you talking about encoding or decoding? Encoding is the ability to send a page, and decoding is the radio acting like a fire pager and breaking squelch when the tones are received.

Newer Motorola Portables are capable of wider splits. The Saber series (non-Astro) did not cover 450-520 in one split. They went 403-433, 440-470, 460-490.

As far as changing bandsplits it depends on the radio. You would need to change the RF section and then modify the software. In general, it would not be worth the trouble.

Your best bet for a cheap Motorola radio that will cover 450-520 and is capable of QCII decode is the HT750/1250/1550.

Hey Landen:

I've seen most of the questions you ask about Moto gear and I wanted to point you in the direction of www.batlabs.com and the Repeater Builder site.

http://www.repeater-builder.com/rbtip/mojoindex.html (This is the link to Moto stuff on Repeater Builder.)

http://batlabs.com/2way.html (This is Model Specific info as well.)

It's a great place to read up on the different Motorola radios and find out about the stuff you're interested in. (That way you won't have to deal with the "quit being a whacker" posts.)

I was into 2 way radios when I was younger... I wish I had the internet to research the stuff I was interested in back then.

Enjoy.
