OOOps ..did not notice I typed it with stuff missing and just not sounding right and what happened to the edit button? I'm at work it it does not show up.

Anyway meant to ask about Banks County Fire Department ISO rating of class 5 and how long they have had it or possible a way getting a complete history of their ratings for the last 15 years or so. reason asking is just found out insurance company has them listed as a 7 which is wrong and of course shoots up my insurance cost and they have had them as a class 7 since 1994 on our policy and will prorate it back but want to make sure they go back to the right time..Thanks and sorry for being of topic and hope this does not get moved or deleted.

A call to your fire department administrative number (not 911) should be able to get you the information. Also whether or not there is a fire plug nearby which also can impact rates.

You could be within 500 feet of a fire station and still be listed as a Class 7! Yup! Remember, a lot of these out lying counties are VFD and that is why the rates go through the roof.

1268 thanks for the PM and everyone else thanks for the info! Appears that since I'm within city limits and the city is rated class7 still. Its the county that got changed to class 5. Seems that agent did/does not realize this and if he changes my rate thinking its class 5 I'm staying quite but if he cuts a prorated check thinking the other years were wrong I'll have to tell him about the city.

Fire Department ISO Class Ratings

Our volunteer fire department is rated ISO Class 3 - the rating doesn't have anything to do with whether or not the department is paid or volunteer. In Illinois 80 per cent of the firefighters are volunteer. A paid department does have a big impact on your real estate taxes if you are not in a big city. It costs a lot to staff 24x7 if you only have one or two fire calls a week. And being a volunteer is about providing a service to your neighbor and community.

Correct ! Jackson County is all volunteer with the exception of West Jackson. One Dept is ISO 4 with the balance ISO 5/6.
The scores are complex and full time staffing is a small portion of it. Factors like water supply, equipment etc play a bigger part in that score.
