Hall County officials have recently announced that they working with neighboring communities, to transform this trunked radio system into a regional 700/800 MHz, Project 25 network. This plan would include the counties of Banks, Barrow, Habersham, Jackson, Lumpkin, and White. Meanwhile, neighboring Dawson County, is pursuing the development of their own Project 25 TRS, but said that a sharing agreement with either Forsyth or Hall Counties could be financially beneficial to them in the long-run. Moreover, the site-controller used by Hall County, does have the capability to support up to 62,000 radios, however, they only have 1,200 radios on their digital radio system at this time.

Anyone else heard anything about this? Any plans on it becoming encrypted?

If Hall County has anything to do with it, it will be encryted like their system. Hopefully, Dawson will go with Forsyth.

I live in White County. I volunteer with City of Helen Fire. We have several members that are career with HCFD. They all despise the P25 system. I can tell you that White county neither has the funding to go to the P25 system nor does it have much interest from what I have seen/heard. Hall county did give White county 2 p25 radios but to my knowledge they are collecting dust. White county has to transition to a paid department before it can even consider anything like that.

As for Banks county: a VERY good friend of mine is the Admin. Captain for Banks county fire. He hasn't mentioned it but I seriously doubt Banks will be making that transition either. It just costs to much and capitol expenditures right now in most every county government is on hold until the economy rebounds.

I spoke to a friend of mine the other day. He said Banks has purchased radios that are Digital upgradable however due to what he felt like was pure ignorance, they are NOT compatible with Hall's P25 system.

Someone another forum someone told me this...
"Country, the radio system upgrade recently put in place was because a grant was awarded by the federal government. Grant specifics are very specific and did not allow for the upgrade to a 700/800 system in both spec and monies areas. The new equipment is very state of the art and top of the line. Please ignore this so called source of information being as you stated he resigned. The current system in place is the best solution for the county without spending millions of dollars to upgrade the entire system including many new tower sites."

Anyone knows what upgrades he is talking about?

No they are not going P-25. Talked with there 911 director Monday for the time being there planning on 2 new towers and some new receivers but no change in frequency. They bought kenwood radios that are p-25 capable because the grant they received specified they had to do so...only reason.

Thanks you for the update. I figure before its over everyone will be digital encrypt

Your 100 % correct....the uncertainty of a new chairman puts that a few years off in Banks.
In the long run they wil be on the same system as Jackson and Hall.

I live in Dahlonega and used to work for the Fire dept. They might go P25 VHF and narrowband, Mabey even Digital, I serously dont think their going 800 mhz. The money is not their.

However they need to do something, their repeater is premitive. If you listen to 154.445 you will see almost no one unless your right in town, can talk to dispatch untill trying 4 or 5 times or going to a mobile/truck radio.

VHF Paging

Also If your a scanner person you are going to be ok listening, Look at forsyth county still has a VHF link because that is the only way to set off the fire pagers for thier Vol FF's. So everyone can atleast hear dispatches. Their is no such as a 800 MHz Pager as I understand it.

Not true, most places with 800 mhz are now moving there vol's over to alpha paging. More reliable and you get the street address on your pager etc. Voice paging is slowly dying.

Lumpkin county along with White have both approached Hall about moving over to there trunked system but decided to not jump in on this grant. I love the idea of P25 VHF as that system shows more stability then 800MHZ.
