• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I'm toying with the idea of getting one or the other simply just for fun, nothing serious. What I cannot tell is which model is the newer of the 2 and what differentiates them. Has anyone tried either of these? I know Radioddity has them under their brand name. However, I like hearing form the everyday user.
All the videos on youtube are a foreign language.....

I just purchased the DM-1801 at the Orlando, Florida Hamcation. I believe the DM-1801 is the newer.
It took a couple days before the place I purchased it sent me a link for the software.
They also told me the radio is new.
I am new to DMR radios and can't really help with differences between this radio and others.
Still learning. What I can say is I have been getting excellent audio reports in both digital and analog
modes. From what little experience I have with the programming software it appears to be identical
to the GD-77 except the GD-77 has a much higher version and the firmware on the GD-77 is higher too.
The software looks identical to what I an using called BF-1801.

I am searching for any user groups of this radio for tips and mods.

I have a Hesenate DM-1701 and am very happy with it, let me correct myself, almost very happy with it. The only flaw to date is the minimum volume setting. Even when set to "1" it is quite loud. There is no adjustments in the setting to fix this either. The radio isflash upgradable so hopefully they will push a firmware update to fix this bug.

Baofeng just came out with the DM-1702. 2 versions, with and without GPS.

I like my DM-1801. Its does have a few strange things for example when scanning it will stop on a active channel like it should
however if you manually stop the scanning on that active channel it doesn't stop on the active channel you stopped it on like
it should. You then have to go fine the active channel. I found if I hit the BACK button it displays the active channel then I know
where to find it. On the DM-1801 I am limited to 32 channels per zone. Since my scanning is based on zones that is a limitation.

Just curious if anyone else might have a DM-1801. There has been a lot of talking concerning firmware for mods on
github. It turns out the DM-1801 is similar to the GD-77 which has been firmware wise modded as well as the software
used for it. With any luck this will happen to the DM-1801.

Badjob,
yes, and thanks... I have been following the activities there. I have their latest CPS but I have not tired their modified firmware
yet. I might try the new 2.1.9 firmware without mod
