If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm having the Baofeng problem where the squelch opens about every 20 seconds, regardless of whether a DMR, analog CSQ or analog with CTCSS or DTS frequency is programmed in the channel. It does it on all channels.

I know that the squelch settings (0-9) are adjustable using CHIRP for the UV-5R models, but since the DM-5R and/or Plus are not on CHIRP yet, and the CPS-5R does not have that capability, does anyone know how to adjust the squelch settings?

Thanks,

Rich C

Squelch is a menu setting in all the Baofeng models I own, but I don't own a DM-5R Plus.

If squelch is opening on an analog channel with a DCS code programmed, changing squelch level will not help. Squelch should only open when the programmed DCS code is detected. That is unlikely to happen with random interference.

If it does it with tone decode enabled then it isn't a squelch problem. It sounds to me like the radio is defective.

Sorry it took so long, but I finally had the chance to look for what I was talking about. I found it on the Miklor site. Here's the link:

UV5R/UV82 Squelch Levels - Miklor

The problem that I am having is that CHIRP has not been developed for the DM-5R, so I can't access these settings (please see the images). So here are my two questions:

1. Does anyone else that has a DM-5R have this problem?
2. Since I can't use CHIRP to program the radio, is there any other way to access these settings?

Thanks again,

Rich

Another thing came to mind. It's as though someone is pressing the MONItor button to open the squelch.

My DM5-R plus does it when in CTCSS mode. I call it "spitting" because that is sort of what it sounds like. It may also do it in carrier squelch mode too, but I don't seem to notice it as much. I haven't used DCS or DMR enough to know. I find it annoying. I believe it is an inherent problem with the design. If someone does come up with a fix, I'd love to know.

According to the link that I posted above, the problem can be fixed by adjusting the squelch settings. Unfortunately, the only CPS in which you make the adjustments, is CHIRP. CHIRP does not currently support the DM-5R. The Baofeng CPS will not allow you to make the adjustments.
