SCANNING THE AIRWAVES SINCE 1987
Or in my case, a sight for bad eyes.
Due to failing eyesight, it has become somewhat difficult to see the displays on my HT's. I have to tilt the radios "just right," or use a magniying glass in order to read the displays. That has been a problem.....until this morning.
I've been gathering up a bunch of unused HT's to sell, and pulled my "to go" bag (which I haven't opened / used in years) out of my trunk. One of the radios in it was the Baofeng GT3. Tried turning it on to see if it still worked, but after sitting in the bag unused for a few years, the battery was dead. I let it charge up for a few hours and tried it again. This time it turned on and I was pleasantly surprised / reminded to see it had the "reverse" display; white characters on a black background. I was able to read the display without the aid of a magnifying glass or tilting the radio just so. I did some simple manual programming to see if it still worked, and was able to hit all of my local repeaters with ease.
I think until I see (no pun intended) if the treatments being done on my eyes will improve my eyesight, this is going to be my "go-to" HT since I can see the display so much better than on my UV82X3 or UV-5X3.
It's a shame more HT's don't have the reverse display. It would make it so much easier for the visually impaired to operate an HT.
