All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

My Baofeng UV-5B has a transmit problem. A couple of hams have told me that they hear a weird when I transmit. They say it sounds like an European repeater tone. I have no idea what it could be.

I went ahead and deleted the memory for the repeater and plugged it in fresh. I checked all connections and topped off the battery. The noise is still heard on transmit ONLY.

Any thoughts?

If it isn't the idiot tone (roger beep) it could be ANI or PTT ID.
The only thing I know of that could be called "European repeater tone" is the 1750 Hz burst tone.
I don't know how that works on the UV-5B but most other cheap chinese hand helds you can only activate it by pushing another key after you push the PTT key, similar to sending manual DTMF tones.
On the UV-5R and clones the A/B and BAND keys send the 1750 Hz burst tone.

Thanks for all the great ideas. I checked ANI/PTT ID and they were both turned to off. Roger beep was turned off. That's why I decided to post here. I am stumped! lol.

I still have no idea why it's making a low level noise when I talk. Thanks for the tips though.

Is it a single tone or a low level continuous sound while transmitting? Could it be you have the PL turned on? Or the low "rumble" of DPL?
BB

It lasts for ~10 seconds and is a very low level noise. Yes I have a 88.5 PL tone set for access to a repeater. That noise should be inaudible though?
