Baofeng UV-5R Antenna reccomendations

Hello,

My Baofeng radio's stock antenna is complete ****, so I've been searching for a new one.

I've found the Nagoya 771, and it's reviews are positive, but I don't know if it will work on Australian UHF CB (476 - 477 MHz) and VHF. It's outside of the antenna's frequency range, would it be better for transmit / receive than the stock antenna? If not, what antenna would you recommend that has the stock antenna's frequency range?

Please, PLEASE don't use the UV5R on Australian UHF CB frequencies. The radio is not type approved and you risk both confiscation and heavy fines if you use it for that purpose.

I'm looking to mostly receive, not transmit. The only time I ever transmit on UHF CB is once a week or so for about 10 minutes to someone 2 km away.

I also mostly stick to the speed limit on the road. The only time I ever speed is once a week or so, for about 10 minutes to get home from work a little quicker.

It still doesn't make it legal.

I noticed you posted another thread where you expressed some concern about the legality of using the UV5R in Australia, so you wanted to lock it down to "approved" frequencies. Mention was made of UHF CB in that thread, too.

The ONLY way you can legally use this radio in Australia, is if you lock it to approved amateur radio frequencies AND you are in possession of a current amateur radio licence for those bands. You cannot transmit on UHF CB, public safety or any frequency outside of the 2m/70cm amateur bands.
