• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I bought one of these dual banders basically just to play with..... I went to put our UHF repeater in and it gets nothing but noise. Does anyone else have problems with that on UHF. The Frequency is 442.000+ / tx audio is fine, no noise but the rx audio is so bad you can't hear people talking at all.

It is internally generated interference - a "birdie" if you will. I just tried it on mine and I receive a carrier without an antenna. Looks like you are SOL for that particular frequency. Sorry to hear that.

BTW - my Cisco IP phone generates an IF signal that causes interference for me on 442.300 that is not present on other radios. Oh well.

Same here on the 442.00 "birdie" -- particularly irritating because that is my closest input to a regional link system.

That's a shame. I'll have to check my UV-3R for the same birdie. I actually use my 3R 99% for UHF, but our local repeater is 444.880+ and I haven't seen a problem there. In fact, it's one of my best sounding radios on UHF. At least, that is my opinion on this Chicom "junk" radio :D

No noise on mine w/ RH-771 antenna. Firmware 251. I hear static with no antenna, but not with it, so why would it matter?

UHF Problem

2 possible solutions....

If your using the rubber dummy load that comes w/the radio change it the NA-771 and 701 are prime antenna's.....

If the repeater uses a tone, program the radio to use the tone/squelch option. Not the tone alone but the tone/squelch. Thats utilizing the input and output tone features.

Hope you get it worked out

even with a rx tone it still sounds bad and you can't hear what the other person is saying. I tried a few different antennas and still the same little birdie
