I'm trying to use a Baofeng UV-5R with a Rugged Radios H41 headset, linked below. I'm using a Kenwood Cable, also linked below.
When I plug the headset in and turn the radio on with the volume all the way up, I can barely hear it through the headset. When I try to transmit with the headset and press the PTT button, the transmit light comes on on the radio. Using another radio set to the same frequency, I can just barely hear my transmission.
Anyone have any thoughts? I've already tried shaving some plastic off the plug to ensure a good connection. I used a multimeter to check the wiring of the cable and I believe it is correct for the headset and radio, but I'm not 100% confident in my method for this. The headset that came with the radio seems to work fine, as does a chirp programming cable.
Is this radio/cable/headset compatible with each other, or maybe I just have a bad headset? Any input is appreciated.
