BaoFeng UV-82 Recieve issue...

I love this radio. For a cheap radio it's got excellent reception for $40 bucks. I only can find one issue so far. I'm not sure what causes the problem, so I hope someone on the forums can help.

I have all the frequencies programmed with the respective CTCSS or DCS tones. I use the radio for strictly recieve purposes.

While scanning or monitoing certain channels, the radio will act like it's recieving a transmission. However, the is no audio and no transmission is picked up on the scanner set on the same frequency. I've tried a squelch setting anywhere from 2 to 9, makes no difference. I've tried setting the radio in many different positions around the house, the garage, outside, and at work.

I can happen on any channel/frequency at any time. I've programmed it with Chirp and the BaoFeng software. I've tried messing around with the settings, but I haven't found a setting the makes this issue go away.

Mine does the same thing, just got mine in the mail today, I put an 18" antenna on it. I would like to ask how to set it up like yours however I do not want to hijack the thread.

The uv82 has the same receiver problems as the uv-5r. They are very sensitive, but too wide open. Many things can cause this interference. Computers, key fobs, and especialy your cell phone. When you start getting these pops and scanning stops, probably on a UHF frequency, check if your phone has switched bands. Move it away and the interference should stop.

I thought it might have been a transmission on that frequency with a different, or no CTCSS tone at all. Could also be interference. Both seem plausible on mine.

This radio has a very weak front end it's going to let a lot of stuff come in so get use to it and if you use a ext. Antenna it's even worst.......
