• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I just added a Baofeng UV-S9 Plus Handy Talkie to my collection and my question relates to which radio do I select to download the image because in Chirp, there is no UV-S9 Plus radio selection. There is a UV9R and a UV9RX3 but my radio (UV-S9 Plus) has 21 fields and the radio reference query returns a few fields less. So I am wondering If I am selecting the wrong radio to query or download?

Hopefully you have had success by now, but here's a reply after figuring mine out via trial and error:

After many failed attempts at selecting various Baofeng models from the menu, I had success with the UV-5R selection for programming my UV-S9PLUS radios. I hope this thread is helpful to other owners of this model.

1. In the CHIRP program, click on RADIO in the drop down menu DOWNLOAD FROM RADIO and select Baofeng UV-5R.
the Software may give a disclaimer that it may or may not be up to date. (I have a hunch these UV-S9PLUS radios are close cousins to the UV-5R)

2. Click OK to Acknowledge the disclaimer and continue.

3.Then it instructs you to turn your radio ON while connected to your programming cable, and make sure the knob is turned up to Maximum Volume, and on a frequency that is not active. Removing any antennas probably helps. Click OK, A light will flash on the radio indicating it is busy. A status bar on the computer software will also appear.

4. Then, after a successful download of the radio, you have to copy/paste your programming onto the downloaded radio tab, and over-write it with your pasted data. This assumes you planned out all of your channels and frequencies in a separate tab/file.

5. FINALLY, To upload this info to the radio, choose RADIO from the drop down menu and choose UPLOAD to RADIO. This option was greyed out on the menu until you made changes to the data (via cut/paste) on the recently downloaded radio tab. There will be a status bar just as during the download. A light will flash on the radio indicating it is busy.

6. If you had success, print out the csv file of your channel lists onto paper for reference and keep it in a notebook. I found that only the frequencies display next to the channel number on my UV-S9PLUS. Even though I took the time to add text to the fields in CHIRP, they do not display on the radio. Therefore, having the printout offers a helpful reference.
