To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Baofeng Baofeng UV21 Transmit Disable?

I have a few Baofeng radios and just bought the UV21. Can someone help me with disabling the transmit on specific channels I have programmed?

I have found a selection to disable transmit for the whole band (uhf, vhf or both), however I’m looking to disable transmit on specific frequencies.

At this time, I have it set to transmit to 222.000 MHz for those channels, incase I push the transmit button but I don’t like the fact it gives the appearance of being able to transmit on unauthorized channels.

There are options to do this in my other baofengs (such as disable transmit on 220 band). But I can’t find it on this radio. I may disable uhf and vhf transmit if I can’t find anything else and use it as a scanner.

The radio has pretty awesome audio. My only other complaint is the transmit button is a way too easy to bump.

I used both Chirp and Baofeng’s. As for the options, there is an “off” option under the offset duplex. That seemed to do the trick. Thanks.
