The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hand held radio transmitters certified in the US may not have more than 7 watts transmit power on VHF, or 5 watts on UHF. That would exceed the Radio Frequency exposure limits.
It IS a safety issue.

This is a false statement.... Otherwise please provide the Rule stating the power limits.

As for the original poster's question I went with the BF-F8HP... Mostly the same radio but there is a whole lot more accessories for the BF-F8HP

Not sure there is a 3800 mah battery for the uv82hp. That in itself is a big benefit. Both are vhf/uhf, but like billy1962 says, accessories are in abundance for the f8hp. There is also the f9hp. Basically the same as the f8hp. Same item, different labels.

Is there anyone else have them both or one of them to tell which one is the best ? I have read in some articles that the uv82hp is better than bf-f8hp and vice versa.

The bigger battery, if you go to the high power setting of 8 watts, will last you longer. If you dso alot of listening and casual tranmisssions, should go 3 days betweeen charging. When you but the f8hp, it comes with a normal battery but you can add the battery as an option. Yes, I use the big battery almost all the time.

I just received my UV-82HP yesterday, and so far I'm quite impressed with it. Fantastic receive audio, good signal/audio reports, feels good in the hand, and seems like a quality build.

I also got a few accessories to go along with it, one of which was a Nagoya NA-771 antenna, which I thought should be an improvement over the stock antenna, as most everyone knows stock antenna's often leave a bit to be desired. Anyway, the Nagoya actually didn't improve anything. Not that the Nagoya isn't a good antenna, but the stock antenna is really a solid performer!

From here in the house, I can clearly receive law enforcement and fire depts from two of the counties around me that still use VHF analog.

So far, definitely the best $62.00 I've ever spent on a hand-held radio!

Between these two radios I would pick the BF-F8HP, because it's smaller in standard configuration (easy to pack), but with the large capacity battery or the AA battery holder adapter it can be configured as a full-size radio with very comfortable grip (and huge capacity), and in the front you have the VFO and A/B channel buttons. The extra 1w won't make much difference, but never hurt anyone having more power in their radios.

The UV-82HP has the traditional "business radio" look to it with a different feel, but it lacks the button layout of the other as far as I can tell by the image. This form is very popular and comfortable to hold.

They both look very good, so I don't think you can go wrong with either.

Ps: I still couldn't find ANY reference to the 7w max HT limit, so if anyone can include a link to FCC about it, I'd appreciate it.

I choose the UV-82HP

The UV-82HP has dual-PTT, something I find very useful. It also has larger buttons (I'm a fat-fingerer) and the "zero" button in the correct location. It also feels better in my hand than the BF-F8HP, which feels like a duplicate of my UV-5R. When I'm at the fringes of our local repeater, friends tell me that I keep cutting in-and-out when I use my BF-F8HP, but on my UV-82HP they say I sound very "steamy" yet they can copy every word.

According to Miklor, the UV-82HP (Baofeng Pofung UV82 UV82X Miklor) transmits at 7.3 watts while the BF-F8HP (F8HP 8W - Miklor) transmits at 7.4 watts, a very minor difference.

I have the BF-F8HP and I'm very satisfied with it. I believe the UV-82HP was made more for the commercial side seeing as it does have a VFO lockout feature in the programming.
