I am in the market for a new base antenna, I will be monitoring VHF Hi with P25, Uhf and 800. I am wanting a small foot print antenna and dont want to break the bank. I currently have a WBV-60 Wideband Base Antenna from scanner master in the attic and works pretty good, I am wanting something outside to help pull in the distant signals better. I was thinking about possibly using a NMO all band antenna with a ground plane kit. I have looked at the Austin Spectra not real sure it would work correctly because I dont want to use the base they have because of the size and the AntennaCraft ST2 is also too large for what I am wanting. I have seen some good reviews on NMO150/450/800 Tri-Band NMO Antenna for a mobile but not sure on a base setup with ground place kit. I also considered just going back with a good discone. I will have about a 50ft run of coax. I have looked at a lot of other antennas and am just really not sure what would be the best for what I am looking for, so I am looking for some input and reviews from other people.

Thanks

How about the Diamond D-220 mini discone? It receives from 100 to 1600 MHz and its 35.5 inches tall. The Larsen tri-band antenna with a groundplane kit sounds good but am not sure where you could get a groundplane kit that would be able to cover those freqs.
