Hi, i was wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction to a decent base scanner (if there is one that does such coverage) that'd cover from 0khz right up to 2500mhz with no gaps.

Thanks.

Ha, well, it was the wireless phones i was interested in to be honest. Always curious if a scanner did such coverage. I come over the Alinco DJ-X2000 which goes as low as 100khz, but not low enough!

Not the place to ask these questions- this is an illegal activity and will get you banned from this site.
It is not legal to monitor the cell bands.

back in the day, around 97 or so, I had a scanner that was capable of monitoring the analog cell phone band, found out by accident, do not recall the model number or anything, but I know that the girl I was dating over heard a conversation she did not want to hear. but yeah, its not legal, they dont make any that do that I am aware of.

At one time, there were scanners that could cover nearly everything. Then the cellular industry, trying to ensure the 'privacy' of cell calls got Congress to pass legislation making illegal to monitor cell traffic and also making it illegal to sell or modify a scanner to receive cellular signals.

You will see some radios sold that are unblocked, but you need to have 'official' government authority to purchase them. Meaning a contract issued through a government contracting office AND additional justification like the agency is law enforcement and has the need to monitor the blocked channels.

Lastly though, the vast majority of cellular traffic is now digital and thus not able to be monitored anyway. So why waste your time and money to buy a radio that won't let you break the law the way you want (i.e., monitoring cell calls).

If you really want to waste time on the topic, search through the various threads in RR as this topic has been discussed (and the 'dis' dropped occasionally) pretty much to death.

JUST MAKE A STICKY SAYING THAT ITS ILLEGAL AND NOT POSSIBLE
And cellular is digital, you can get a scanner that can decode that type of digital and encryption that the cell phone use

the correcnt last sentence is:
And cellular is digital, you CAN'T get a scanner that can decode that type of digital and encryption that the cell phone use

YOU CANNOT get a scanner that can decode cellular phone transmissions

Yes Yes Yes!!
We definetly need a thread on here saying that you cannot listen to cell phones

This type of question wouldn't get a person banned, and you make an assumption that it's illegal based upon what supplied information. Yes it's illegal in the US and many other places, but may not be illegal where the OP lives. Remember it's called the World Wide Web, not the United States Web.

What is it you hope to hear? There's very little of interest to listen to below 100 kHz. There's some encrypted data sent to submarines, and some time and frequency standard stations between 40 and 60 KHz. Then there's loran, at 100 KHz. To listen effectively down that low, you need a GOOD receiver, and a GOOD antenna.

While a sticky might be a good idea, we currently have stickies in the general forum for

1. What kind of posts belong in the 'general' forum.
2. Request for new members to provide info.
3. A FAQ for new scanner owners
4. Will there ever be a provoice scanner.

Yet we still see posts that belong in a specific forum (either locale or scanner type), new members asking for help setting up a scanner without telling us the scanner or locale, discussions on provoice.

So if we do add a sticky on monitoring cell phones in the US would anyone really bother to read it? Based on the other stickies, one could almost guarantee it would not be read. Those odds are the kind casino's like to have in their favor.

There are several listed here that might fill your needs. You need to get the restricted Government/Export version if you want full coverage.

Universal Radio, Wide-Band Receivers

Your master site
I won't be creating a sticky, unless another mod disagrees and creates one, simply because people won't read them (typically the people asking this question) and it being a US specific thing.

My best advice......don't respond to the thread. Or report it and I'll close it.

The AOR AR5000 possibly?

Try this one (only $2500). Assuming you can get the government clearance, you can get it with cellular unblocked and an "Analog voice descrambler" option. Range is 10 kHz through 3000 MHz AM, FM-N, FM-W, LSB, USB and CW (NTSC video adapter optional).

Please note that these are receivers and not scanners. They won't handle trunking systems, digital systems, etc.
