OK. I understand both sides of this issue.Being around all types of electronic devices that use batteries for many years one constant remains when the battery cover is regularly taken on and off. Murphy's Law states, "The day you need the scanner the most is the day one or both of the tabs on the battery cover will break off".

This has crossed my mind already too, as i only charge batteries in an external charger. But the uniden battery covers seem fairly durable, and if your a bit careful handling it, should last a long time,,One benifit, the replacement battery covers are only a few dollars should a person ever need one, or want a spare.
