• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

The higher voltage won't hurt your radio. There are six cells in a nicad or ni-mh battery pack. Individual cell voltage can vary from 1.2 to about 1.44 volts per cell, so six will give you a reading of 7.2 to about 8.6 volts. Lithium ion cells are basically 3.6 volts and there are two in the usual pack, so you get the same basic 7.2 volts which can be higher depending on state of charge just ilke the other battery types.

Thank you for your reply.

I found people selling the KNB-17 batteries with 7.2v and 7.5v.
Will 7.5v battery give me better performance?

Battery voltages

Please go back and reread what was sent to you in reply to your first message. At any given time your battery voltage will vary between something like 6.8 volts and 8.6 volts, depending on the state of charge of your battery. The exact voltage is immaterial to the power output of the radio, because the radio is probably designed to operate at a regulated 5 volts and this regulation is done inside the radio between the battery's output and power input points on the radio.

The battery seller would do well to state the design center of the battery pack, which is in most cases 7.2 volts DC. Of much more importance, and the thing you should be concerned with, is the current capacity of the battery because that's the thing that will determine how long your battery will operate the radio before the battery needs a recharge.
