O K here is the deal... I have a BC350 wich I use in the house with the transformer. The power requirments says 13.8v DC, also I use it in the auto once in awhile off the cig. lighter.

My son has several batteries for his 12v ride on cars and the batteries are 12v DC

If I can convince my little one to give me one of the batteries I have bought for him in the past, is it possible to connect the 12v battery to my BC350 to have a means of monitoring in the house in the event of a power failure.

I dont want to buy a handheld right now.

Sure.

Almost all 12V equipment runs fine beteen 11 and 15 v.

Almost all 12V batteries provide between 12 and 14 V when fully charged.

Connected the 12vdc battery up and works perfectly...listening to it right now...

So if any of you have a DC voltage base scanner and want a back up power supply Wal-Mart sells Peg Perego ride on toy car batteries in the toy department for about $50.00

You can do better with a small lawn tractor batterym or a SLA from http://www.batterymart.com/
