I see the battery voltage but I’m trying to understand how to know how much battery is left. I understand the voltage goes down but how high is normal full charge and how low is empty

Charging Externally (?)

Will there be a way to charge the SDS 100 battery externally in a charger or will all batteries need to be charged in radio ? If a charger is in the works, will it be able to charge both the current battery and the new replacement when it's released?
This may have already been answered so forgive me re-asking just finding that I'm not keen on charging in radio and I'm in need to grab a fresh battery or two & go!!

Yes.

You know, I don't remember that being specifically stated. I believe it's been assumed that the external charger would work with both batteries.

With a Lithium Polymer battery, fully charged is 4.20 V.
Fully discharged... is more difficult....
Absolutely empty is 3.00 V - but don't get it get that low, it seriously damages the battery - and LiPo's don't behave well when over discharged. I would consider 3.40 V as your discharged level.

Been playing around with my SDS100 scanner and noted the following:

When I am using the scanner, i.e. scanning etc., the battery status indicator region at the top right-hand corner is just a black area with nothing showing. When I go to try and customize the display the battery indicator icon image is there and I can customize it but when I save the setting, come out of the menu and start scanning the battery icon area remains blank.

Can anyone else the see their battery status indicator icon in their units when scanning?

The SDS100 seems to have its threshold at 4.10v and 3.50v for the max and min levels.

Battery voltage when not charging should be 3.75-3.9V (fully charged battery). When charging, the scanner will charge the batteries at a constant 700 mA current* until the battery voltage reaches about 4.2 V. Then, the scanner will continue to charge the batteries at 4.2V until the charge current reaches about 100 ma.

*Assuming power supply is able to supply enough current to both power and full-rate charge the scanner...if not, charge current will be lower.

Probably quickly drops to <4 w/no external power applied.

Will the charger continue to trickle charge, or at least kick back in here and there as needed after the maximum charge has been attained?

Back to the OP...I could have swore I saw an option and or color option when I did my color change. It was a horizontal bar with battery charge indication..I can't find it. Maybe I dreamt it

The horizontal bar is for RSSI, not battery.

Nope. There is no bar graph display for battery voltage, only RSSI.
