I use both AA and D size batteries for my old radios. AA for the 3 and 6v, and D size in series to make 9v, as an external source. Usually the D batteries will wear very evenly, almost identically in fact. However not so with the AAs, only sometimes. Usually one battery, typically a middle one will wear much quicker. Why is that? Does size have something to do with it? Thanks for any information.

What type of batteries are you using? (Alkaline, NiMH, lithium, etc.)

Are the batteries from the same package, so they are the same age?

They're Ray-O-Vacs I bought in 2020. Some of them were leakers, while the others are ok. I've also been using some Lithium primarily AAs with good results.
