After reading some of this forum, I am beginning to understand what happened on 8/12/21 to my bds436 and whistler 1040. Sometime in the evening I had no reception on either scanner and to this day I only get sporadic activity. I am a newbie at this and would greatly appreciate any guidance anyone could give me. Do I need a new scanner? Thanks for your info.

your 436 should work just depending on your location , if your getting what sounds like garbled talking then you might need to upgrade

the whister will not do phase 2 traffic.

These are not related to the system some how they got into the data plan for the system. I have to delete them again.

Good day all - I used to monitor Bay County Public Safety but now can not.
I have two BCD536 radios and it's all silent. Reading these threads here, I see that the P25 system for BC Public Safety was changed from Phase 1 to 2 recently. Could someone provide steps to re-tune my radios for BC Public Safety? I am new to all of this but I would like to learn more about scanner programming. I appreciate all the information everyone is providing here.

(EDITED)

your radio will have issues with P25p2 simulcast transmissions --- it may require some creative antenna work. I would try with an indoor antenna.

you will be better served to upgrade to the SDS100

There is cases where the "T" does drop to the "D" not sure if you got all freqs listed on rrdb. I use to have the 536 years ago no longer have. The sds100/200 does very well with the system I do hear them with no issues.

your radios cannot demodulate phase 2 P25.

you will have to upgrade to the SDS100

His 536 can receive P25 P2 - I'm using one right now on a simulcast system in Maryland. But it depends on the system design, his location relative to the system's transmit sites, and his receive antenna. Add in that Harris P25 systems are notoriously difficult to receive - even with subscriber radios - and it's not surprising he is having difficulties. He can attempt all kinds of mitigations: attenuation, yagis, paperclips for antennas, relocating the scanners even a few feet, but I think your advice to acquire a SDS radio is the best solution.

you are correct - i have no idea why I typed that. What I meant to say was "simulcast". I'll correct the post.

The system can adapt to both Phase 1 or Phase 2.
Bay County Sheriffs Office and Lynn Haven Police have Harris radios for sure.
Those are programmed for Phase 2.
Fire departments use Motorola radios, PCPD uses XTL2500 in their cars. they are programmed for P25.
That's why my scanner (that's only capable of Phase 1) can pick up 1 snippet of a conversation on SO dispatch.
It probably just means that they have a Motorola radio they are talking on at the moment.
So yes, they can switch back in forth depending on what is being used. We will see how well the system holds up once they start installing more towers, I think there will be 7 total.
Don't know how that needs to be expressed on the RR Page, but places like the airport, PCPD, and fire is almost 100% P1. other TGs are come and go depending on the subscriber radio, thats what probably needs to be changed.

Depending on vendor licensing, running a mixed P1 / P2 system can be inefficient. I’m wondering if some agencies are running new P2 portables are retaining the P1 mobiles until the host vehicle is replaced? That strategy saves a bit of money in the short term, and spreads purchases out over several years. The issue is when a P1 mobile transmits, the system has to find an unused fdma channel and reserve it, which could tie up resources when the system is busy. OTOH if the system was originally fdma and they did not give up any channels when converting, prob not an issue.

On phase ll side for audio is low when on phase l it is very loud don't know what causes that. It is on both on sds 100/200.

I rehoused a Minitor 3 today and noticed that the 155.925 paging frequency no longer includes the voice portion of the transmission. Not sure if this is temporary or not, also, the CC today appears to be 857.2625.
so, any ideas if the paging method is going to change or if this is temporary? I just got back into town so I don't know how long it has been going on. I know there is a TG for VHF paging, but my scanner is so weird, I haven't listened to that side yet. Just like how the UHF EMS repeater is off-air but there is still a TG for it on the system, I am hoping its temporary.

As of the past hour I'm on hold on FTO VHF and hearing the tone & dispatch.

Bay county just had to replace the equipment for that 2 days ago. My boss and I had to run by PC station 1 and get their station alerting going again. Apparently the paging voice audio was very quiet before but now it is back to normal, that’s also why you now hear a Morse ID on the frequency, new equipment.
