I grew up in Bayonne with a scanner attached to my hip from the age of nine. I have since moved to Union County but now with my digital scanner I still monitor BPD/BFD. I am very familiar with the police system unit ids and etc, however, I notice alot of changes with the fd. Additional engines, a squad, and a tower ladder. My question is this, anyone here familiar with what co responds and from what house? I have checked the website, but there is no mention of where certain companies are housed. Guess I am more or less looking to update my knowledge of BFD. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I have checked the site. It seems that it hasn't been updated in a long time. It only lists them as having engines 2,3,4, and 6. I know that is not the case. What about engine 1 and 7 that I hear on the radio? Also Squad 5, I am guessing they replaced engine 5. It says they are located in a temporary firehouse. I wonder what happened to the old 34th street firehouse. I spent alot of time there as a kid. Aside from that, the info on the site seems correct.

34th street station is now closed, there is a temp station near the entrance of the old MOTBY, Hook Road Station i think also is closed or holds a reserve engine. I'll get a hold of my cousin who is on the BPD and see what other changes have happened. I grew up there also, hung out at the 16th street station, was like there mascot..................... back in the 70's.

Fire stations

I just recently moved to Bayonne and started monitoring BFD This is what I figured out:

Station 2
Eng 2 (Radio ID 4200)
Ladder 1 (radio ID 5100_

Station 3
Eng 1 (4100)
Ladder 5 (5500)
Battaloin Chief

Station 4
Engine 4 (4400)
Rescue 1 (6300)

Station 6
Engine 6 or 7?
Ladder 3 (5300)
Hazmat 1

Eng 8 was being dispatched Betwen 12th and 22nd for a while. I have not heard them recently. I just staring hearing Engine 7. It seams they are being dispatched to upper part of the city. may be a replacement to eng 6? not sure. Squad 5 (Radio ID 9000) is out of the temp station by MOTBY, I think the MSU is also out of there. BFD conducts a radio check every morning at 0815 whith all the units and stations. I am usually not home to hear it. I been meaning to record it just haven't got around to it yet. Anyway this is what I could figure out. Can't gaurantee its accuacy. Do you know what Mcabe uses. I have not heard them on Talk Group 302?

Hot off the BFD Press

To give you the BFD update...Engine 1 and Squad 7 were disbanded in May. Rescue 1 became a fully staffed unit instead of members of Eng 1 using for calls when needed. Squad 7 became Squad 5. Engine 1,7, and 8 are reserve companies now and answer up as those units when the frontline American LaFrance's rountinly go O.O.S. for repairs, i.e. Engine 3 rig is down and Eng 1 is running out of their quarters as Eng 1.
Station 1 is the Mot with Squad 5, the reserve rescue and Eng 1 are quartered with them.
Station 2 4th St., 2 Engine and 1 Truck, Air Spill & Decon Trailer
Station 3 27th St, 3 Engine, 2 Truck Battalion 1
Station 4 16th St. 4 Engine Rescue 1 Marine 1
Station 6 57th St, 6 Engine Ladder 3 and HazMat
Station 7 Hook Road, stores out of service rigs and is the Training Center.
2 Truck has been o.o.s for about a year and a half and the reserve truck Tower LAdder 5 is riding out of their house. 1 Truck's 21 year old aerialscope is down and the reserve rescue runs as Truck 1.

McCabe i believe is still operating on UHF Freq, not sure................

Thanks for the info, that clears a lot up for me. I wish I would have heard about that firehouse being up for sale. I grew up hanging around that house. Elizabeth has two closed houses that I wouldn't mind buying if I had the cash lol... As for McCabe Ambulance. They use 464.150 with a pl of 210.7. I have never heard them on the bpd system. I'm guessing it is a money issue. But they come in crystal clear from Linden.

When my family lived in Elizabeth, my father worked for two different firehouses, #9 and #5, I don't even know if they are still there.

No there was major issues w/ it and a part had to be ordered from seagrave and it had to be fabricated......when that was fixed other things went wrong

Now

I heard Truck 2 went down last night at that co gen plant fire. I think Bayonne needs to start a 5 year lease exchange. There's a Village up here in NY that does that, Granted they don't have as much apparatus, but it seems like a good idea. Then again, average 15 years on each truck as long as they are taken care of. BFD300, tell my cousin "Linky" i said hello.........
