BC 246 Motorola I-Call "wildcard"

I read somewhere that the so called "wildcard" for Motorola I-Calls in the BC 246 was ".0" (decimal zero). Can anyone confirm this?

I turned the I-Call option "on", and entered .0 as I would a talkgroup, and it apparently doesn't work. The only way I can receive I-Calls is to select I-Call only, and then do ID search.

BTW, the manual doesn't mention an I-call wildcard, so how was this determined?

I think it's "*7" This wildcard is used for the 780 and the 245xlt's...maybe someone figured it would work for the 246

The BC245 cannot track I-calls.

The following was copied from page 47 of the BC780 manual:

You can store I-Call IDs in scanlists, just like talkgroup IDs, for use by ID Scan and Manual
modes. To program a specific I-Call Unit ID into a scanlist:
EDACS or Motorola Type 1
Enter . followed by the Unit ID digits, then E.
Motorola Type 2
Enter 7 followed by the Unit ID digits, then E.
HINT - There is a special code to let you receive all I-Call IDs with a single scanlist entry.
Simply enter ., 0, E. This will store the special code i0 in an EDACS scanlist, or
700000 in a Motorola scanlist. Then, whenever you SCAN this entry, or select it in
MANUAL, the scanner will receive any active I-Calls, regardless of the Unit IDs.

I have determined that entering ".0" in a scanlist on the BC246 doesn't work for tracking I-Calls. It just shows up as a zero in the scanlist and does nothing.

Anyone else?

The BC245 cannot track I-calls.

He's not talking about the 245, he's talking about the 246. :wink:

Yes, and I was replying to kma371 who implied that the 245 will track I-calls which it will not.

I may have been premature when I said that the .0 wildcard doesn't work on the BC246

I have entered a group on my trunked systems with a wildcard ID of .0 (that's decimal zero), and another with a wildcard of 700000.

One of these definately works, as I can now receive I-Calls. If you leave out the alpha tag for the wildcard, it will show you the radio ID of the I-Calling parties.

I just confirmed it works on mine by entering the ".0"
The radio then converts it to: i00000

I can hear I-Calls and interconnect phone calls while in Scan mode.
