The low battery alert on my BC 246T went off for an hour and a half today, before it actually turned off automaticaly. The scanner was seeing normal usage (for Houston Texas anyways, that is always talking). Anyone know of a way to fix this, so it won't go off for more than like 5 min. before the scanner shutting off automaticaly without the software?

No unfortunatley. I wondered about this as well, when my 246T beeped for almost an hour before it calfed. It 's very annoying listening with the 246T when the low battery is going. I wish it would just beep at you a few times, then run normally until it ran out.

Regards,
Richster.

It's annoying for a reason. Change the batteries or turn it off.

I am amazed at the things people find to complain about.

True enough. Complaint is such an ugly word, I look at it more like a "little peeve I have to live with". It's like the 796D not decoding TG's properly while in "ID Search mode".

I forgot to add one thing I absolutley love about this scanner that fixes this peeve, You can now carry an extra set of batteries and change them on such an occaision, where as in previuos BC portables you couldn't.

Richster

It is amazing what sounds good at that time of the morning.

However, the beep-beep was designed to tell you the batteries need changing and was actually engineered in on purpose. Somehow, I don't think Uniden designed a improper decoding of TG information into the radio on purpose.

On purpose or not it is still a peeve. In the past there have been many "innovations" incorporated into scanners people don't like for some reason or other.

Uniden made a proprietary battery pack for the 245XLT "on purpose". There were thousands of complaints concerning that, and didn't make it any less valid. Uniden also learns from "complaints" and from it designs better scanners . Uniden has an excellent track record on listening to thier customers. Look how fast the came out with the first firmare upgrade for the 246T, absoutely impressive.

I'm just saying, Beep Beep doesn't have to go on for over a hour, we get the message already.

Damn Lou, you're in a fiesty mood today.

Regards,
Richster.

I don't own that model, but, you're right an hour + is way too long.
If they want to have it beep OCCASIONALLY that early in the end-of-battery cycle, that's fine. As voltage gets lower, beeping can become more emphatic and often. As it stands, sounds like 10-20% of it's operating cycle is masked by incessent beeping making listening very annoying. The alternative, set the beep for a lower voltage closer to where it really is going to dive. Yes, a firmware fix would take care of this.

That is what I was thinking of trying to do. I thought I saw somewhere on ARC 246 that you could change the voltage.

I know you could change it on the Pro-95 with Win95.

that would be ideal, an hour and a half seems to be a bit extreme for a low battery alert to go off.

now if it was closer to 30 min or so, then sure.

As I think about it further, seems like an occassional (1x per minute)lower volume beep at about 20% battery WITH the battery warning in the display firing. As the % goes to 15% every 45 sec just a tad louder, and so forth. This is too user friendly, it'll never fly.
Just wishing

I would just like to hear the battery alert for maybe the last minute or last half minute of battery life.
