Has anyone out there had a chance to run a "side-by-side" sensitivity comparison, using rubber duck antennas in the 2-meter and VHF-HI frequency ranges with radios such as BC-245 and Pro-95? Being a "HAM" I often find myself listening to "weaker-signals" as opposed to local dispatch or the nearby trunked system so sensitivity is an important issue.

I'd be curious to hear comments from anyone who may have run comparisons....

Thanks

I can't vouch for the 250 - but I have a 95 and just got the 246T. It's what I expected of Uniden, and the 95 is what I knew enough to expect of Radio Shack and convinced myself otherwise of. Pro 95 would miss about every other call that the uniden next to it would get. That and the boneheadedness of the interface are why it's for sale.

So far my only gripe with the 246 is that the telescoped vol/squelch knob LOOKS fragile. I wish they'd made the vol / squelch just like the multifunction knob. Make it volume, push it to make it squelch. (Which btw would open the way for a REALLY cool feature of a per channel squelch setting.)

I was looking for a new scanner recently and decided I'd try the Radio Shack Pro-95, since it was on sale for $150. As soon as I brought it home I realized I had made a mistake with the Pro-95. While it works great for a lot of people, in my area I was immediately getting paging interference.

Returned it and waited for a Uniden BC246T. I'm glad I waited! No annoying pager interference and a lot of neat features.

ThumbTrap...I hope you've been paying attention to the threads & links concerning the 396 (the digital reciver designed similar to the 246)

I believe they heard you before you typed it, 'cause that's what it'll be like. :D

I wanted a 796 or 396 but I just can't swallow $500 for a scanner yet. Granted I guess I could've done it if I did it right to start with, but it's still a hard pill to swallow. $300 is about my limit for most toys. We have a mixed mode system, not a lot of digital in NC, and pretty much only the PD is digital on our system. Fire, EMS, and Sheriff are analog so.... it's a hard sell for me.
